7 July 1928  Pigeons    Amongst the birds in the great Thurso race were two sent by Mr. James M. Davies, Fochriw. The birds were liberated at 7:20a.m., one arriving at Fochriw at 9:20p.m. Mr. Davies, a great pigeon fancier, has had a very successful year with his birds.

Chess Club

16 July 1927   Chess    There are not many chess players in Fochriw, but a Chess Club is being started due to the enterprise of Messrs. Hollister, Curtis and Powell. The headquarters will be Pen Pwlla.

As detailed below, newspaper reports recommenced in March 1936, the last one being April 1957. This was a very popular and successful class with frequent teas, entertainment and day trips being arranged
